Effect of Al substitution on structure and cathode performance of MgMn2O4 spinel for magnesium rechargeable battery

• Al-substituted MgMn 2 O 4 nanoparticles are synthesized by a sol-gel method. 2- x Al has both tetragonal and cubic spinel phases. The fraction of phase tends to increase with the ratio. exhibits higher discharge capacity than normal . in reduces structural change during discharging. Magnesium rechargeable batteries using Mg-metal anodes promising post-lithium-ion batteries. is strong candidate cathode material owing its high energy density relatively Mg 2+ -ion diffusivity. However, while pristine forms structure ( I 1 / amd ) Jahn–Teller effect Mn 3+ , it adopts charged/discharged state. This results from charge/discharge cycling, leading poor battery performance reversibility. To improve performance, we prepared 2− = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5) suppress distortion. obtained two-phase crystal coexisting structures, whereby spinels exhibit superior capacities that Al-substitution reduced discharging will aid development cathodes for magnesium
